Rivers and Area Community Foundation (RACF) supports a great variety of projects for our area.  For our fifth anniversary celebration director Craig Allison created a pie graph which depicts the categories we have allocated grants to; these percentages directly correlate to the  applications we receive. This year we received over $96,000 worth of requests and gave out $11,020.24. According to Canada Revenue Agency regulations, community foundations can never spend the capital, they are only allowed to spend the interest they receive on that capital.

Charging one week, complimentary the next

On Saturday, Dec. 6 Rivers and Area Lions Club held a pancake breakfast before the annual Santa Claus parade. The organization charged for that meal but exactly one week later (Saturday, Dec. 13) they provided a free supper to area senior citizens.

Africa fundraising update

As 2014 comes to an end, we would like to acknowledge people for their support of our fundraiser this fall, for buying pumpkins or donating to the orphanage and the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Ian and Petty Whyte are back in Kenya at the Springs of Life Children鈥檚 水果视频. They built another fundraising house in Brandon this summer; the house is still for sale.

Recognition at retirement

In 1973 Dave Allen of Rivers became a member of Branch No. 75 Royal Canadian Legion and a year later, he began working at the weekly bingos. After 40 years of service, Dave announced his retirement so at a Wednesday event earlier this month, he was given a beautiful watch.
