Culture is an important part of our lives and within the context of culture, there is the subgroup of Canadian-made content. Historically, the federal government has focused its concern over Canadian content to regulating a minimum number of Barenaked Ladies songs that must be played on the radio, funding the CBC and making sure our cable and satellite providers show enough shows featuring Anne of Green Gables.

Kurt Vonnegut was an author best known for his novel Slaughterhouse Five. Vonnegut believed that all people needed to be creative simply because it was good for the soul. One of my favorite Kurt Vonnegut quotes is:

The conversation around the multi-generational festive table was animated, from the foolish to the philosophical, punctuated with laughter and gentle personal poking. I came away thankful that I had been included, wonderfully full in body and spirit and with some thinking to do. One of the off hand comments carried a deep truth 鈥 鈥榡ust because we are a small town doesn鈥檛 mean we don鈥檛 have to obey the rules!鈥 The topic had been on the traffic violations that are becoming too common.
