鈥淓very minus is half of a plus, waiting for a stroke of vertical awareness.鈥 Alan Cohen (author of 14 popular inspirational books, contributing writer for 鈥楥hicken Soup for the Soul鈥, columnist and seminar leader on spiritual awakening and visionary living.) There are days when I need this simple reminder, every minus is half a plus. Sometimes I need it for myself and sometimes I need to share it with others. Most of us take a set back seriously. That鈥檚 okay as long as it challenges us to think further, and not crumple in defeat.

My perspective - Fact or fiction?

Kate Jackman - Atkinson

In the past few months, I鈥檝e had a couple of people send me news articles they鈥檝e found online and ask me if I thought they were true. In each case, some investigation revealed that they were in fact completely fabricated. The whole phenomenon of 鈥渇ake news鈥 is recent and while slants and biases have probably existed since the first newspapers, today we find ourselves in uncharted waters. It has been out of use for 10 years now and yet it was deemed to be one of the best facilities in the City of Winnipeg. It has fallen into such as state of disrepair that it may never be used again. It鈥檚 sad, especially when good sports facilities are needed so badly.

My perspective - Making mushrooms

Kate Jackman - Atkinson

We鈥檝e all heard about the mushroom treatment, 鈥淜eep them in the dark and feed them [manure].鈥 I wonder if this is the philosophy our current provincial government is following? If they get their way, 水果视频ns will have to work a lot harder to be well informed about the issues that impact their lives and communities. Two bills currently before the legislature, Bill 8, The Government Notices Modernization Act, and Bill 19, The Planning Amendment Act, will make significant changes to the process by which governments must notify the public about changes at local and provincial levels.
