In North America, Beyond Meat and other plant based protein products are getting all of the publicity, as the shiny new option in a sea of changing diets. The fact remains that livestock production is an important part of the Canadian economy, accounting for just under half of Canadian farms. Should livestock producers be worried? I read this morning that, after decades of effort to convert the world away from oil based fuels, little has changed in spite of a reported $1 trillion invested in alternatives to oil. The amount of energy derived from oil remains at 81 per cent.
