鈥淲e鈥 have been told a lot of things that rural people instinctively knew were wrong. Here鈥檚 a partial list of wrong things we have been told.
鈥ural life is not a good thing, city life should be our goal.
鈥arming is not a good career.
鈥igger is better. Bigger cities, larger apartment blocks, bigger care homes, larger buses and commuter trains, bigger airplanes and cruise ships.

About the time we got started in the newspaper business in 1989, a man from Stonewall, named Merv Farmer, was building up some nice newspapers. He wisely told us, if you are going to have a newspaper, you have to spend money on news, on journalists. We have always taken that to heart.

For many gun owners, this past week鈥檚 announcement from our 鈥済reat鈥 leader was incredibly disappointing to hear. An unbelievably loose ban on 鈥渁ssault鈥 firearms has effectively made it illegal to own any form of sporting and competition rifle. The Prime Minister was quoted, stating, 鈥淲hy do you need an AR-15 to hunt deer?鈥 A ludicrous statement, given that it has been illegal to hunt with such weapons for a long time.

The Winnipeg Free Press ran an article on Tuesday. It was a good enough article on its own merits. It states that Carbon Dioxide (CO2) levels are up, but鈥 it鈥檚 a rather shallow article. The last year they have stats for is 2018. Results for 2019 and 2020 don鈥檛 seem to be available yet.

We鈥檝e all likely reached the point in the COVID-19 pandemic where we鈥檙e asking ourselves the same questions: When will it end? When will life get back to normal? As I type this column in an empty room, dealing with the isolation as best I can, I still don鈥檛 know the answers and most likely, neither do you.
