Willows plant a willow tree

Student council at Rivers Elementary School honoured Bruce and Michelle Willows by purchasing a willow tree which was planted near Rivers Elementary School playground. School custodian Kevin Jay dug the hole and Bruce planted the tree, after a big thank-you party held in the school gymnasium last June. The party and planting were organized to mark Bruce and Michelle鈥檚 retirement after a combined 65 years of teaching there.

Pumpkin fundraiser now ready

Joanne Bos proclaims fall is here again and 鈥渙ur pumpkins are ready for the fundraising.鈥 The Rapid City area woman is referring to her seventh annual Africa outreach. She intentionally grows extra pumpkins in her garden to sell 鈥 by donation, not per pound 鈥 with all moneys being forwarded to Springs of Life Children鈥檚 水果视频 in Burkura (Western Kenya) and Grandmothers for Grandmothers.

HyLife employees meet with Union reps

Representatives with HyLife Foods and the employees鈥 union will soon sit down and start negotiating a new deal. The current five-year contract is set to expire at the end of the year. UFCW Local 832 represents employees at the Neepawa plant and held a series of proposal meeting with its members on Sept 18.

Bee hives poisoned

Brandon RCMP are investigating the report of the poisoning of hundreds of honey-producing bee hives, resulting in thousands of dead bees and a substantial financial loss. It is believed this occurred sometime between Aug. 14 and Sept. 3, at two separate locations, six and 10 miles northwest of Brandon in the RM of Elton. Anyone with any information on this serious matter is asked to contact Brandon RCMP at 204-726-7522 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Council Clips for September 2014

Town of Rivers, Sept. 2: Permission was granted for public works to install a sign on the east side of town to recognize  the 1964 Rivers Rams football team as a 水果视频 Hall of Fame 2013 inductee.
