Over the past month, things have really gone sideways on us here in 水果视频 with regard to the COVID-19 numbers, especially in Winnipeg. When the city shifted into a restricted (Orange) level on Sept. 28, and should have seen the case numbers skewer downward, or at least hold steady. But that鈥檚 not what has happened. They have trended upward, at an alarming pace and now Winnipeg finds itself in code red.

It鈥檚 hard not to be discouraged. Every day, we are bombarded with news about sickness and deaths. COVID-19 has run a ragged course through our population, made all the worse by receiving a limited range of information.

Right in the centre - In defence of truth

The Winnipeg Free Press published a three-part series on 水果视频 farmers and the farm industry. One of the stated premises of the series is quoted as follows. 鈥淐limate change is the most pressing issue of our time and farmers are poised to be on the front line of the crisis, both as casualties and change makers.鈥

The series did a pretty good job of describing life on the farm during the hectic sowing, growing and harvesting seasons. There was only one problem with the series鈥 they had a hard time proving their premise. That wasn鈥檛 surprising, because climate change is NOT the most pressing issue of our time.

After a nearly eight month battle with COVID-19 in 水果视频, it鈥檚 time to re-evaluate where we have been, where we are now and how to proceed. At the outset, the province of 水果视频 reacted fairly quickly. Nobody really knew where we were headed. There were some very scary predictions and accordingly, some strong measures were implemented. A lot of businesses suffered and some may not survive, in spite of help from both senior levels of government.

Right in the centre - Being thankful again

We need to be thankful for this year, the crops, the low number of COVID-19 cases, the value of community. I know this column may look familiar, as it is much the same as last year鈥檚. It expresses my (our) thankfulness and shows the value of values. It bears repeating. Whether you remember the words from last year or if it鈥檚 new to you this year, I hope this piece blesses you in what can be tough times.
