Pine Creek Players prepare to perform A Christmas Carol

By Kelvin Bueckert

The Pine Creek Players, a community based theater group based out of Gladstone have spent the past few months busily preparing to perform their 2014 Christmas show 鈥淕od Bless Us, Everyone!鈥, a traditional Christmas Carol adaptation by Michael Youngs.

鈥淐hristmas! Utter rot and nonsense.鈥 Only one man would say such a thing and we all know him by the name of Ebenezer Scrooge. This traditional reworking of the classic Dickens tale presents some new faces alongside the familiar to awaken the spirit of the most stubborn miser known to Victorian fiction.

As we all know, the lonely, penny-pinching London businessman cares little for his fellow man 鈥 until a dark visit from his deceased business partner, Jacob Marley, gives him an ominous warning. In his journey with three spirits, Scrooge revisits the joys and sorrows of his past, including what might have been his only chance at love.

His visions of the present show how his actions affect not only his own well-being, but also the joy and well-being of those around him. But it is the vision of the future that holds Ebenezer鈥檚 hardest lessons, revealing a terrible fate if he does not change his ways. Rediscover with us the magic of A Christmas Carol in this beautifully written adaptation, complete with a hardy dose of comedy to accompany Scrooge鈥檚 heartwarming transformation!

鈥2014 really has been a year of change and challenge for us鈥, said group President, Kelvin Bueckert. 鈥淥ne of the most obvious changes is that we鈥檝e changed our name from Gladstone Community Theater to the Pine Creek Players in order to reflect our broadening vision for the group. Now that I think of it, God Bless Us, Everyone! fits in well with the whole theme of change and challenge, as it marks the first time we鈥檝e challenged ourselves to perform a literary classic. The show also features the largest, most diverse cast we鈥檝e ever had performing onstage. We鈥檝e got people from Gladstone of course, but we鈥檝e also got representation from Plumas to Somerset, from the Elementary School to the Seniors Center. With that said, bring the family and check out the show. It鈥檒l be fun!鈥

The Pine Creek Players will be  performing at the Gladstone Community Center on Nov. 28 at 7:30 and at 2 p.m. on Nov. 29. Tickets are available at Gladstone businesses, by calling: 204-385-2850 or perhaps most convenient of all, through their website www.pinecreekplayers.webs.com.
