About half a dozen Neepawa Chamber of Commerce members met on Thursday and voted to keep the organization going.  The Oct. 9 meeting was open to the entire membership as the organization was required to pass a new set of bylaws and articles of continuance to meet Industry Canada regulations.

Once the vote had passed, discussion turned to upcoming Chamber events, in particular what the organization might do during next year鈥檚 Lily Festival. 鈥淟ily Festival is important,鈥 said Chamber president Troy Mutch.

Past president Sheri Grant said that one idea the Chamber is thinking of is a town-wide school reunion, which would involve a social at the Yellowhead Hall and family activities on the Saturday afternoon. She said that the hope is to get people coming back to Neepawa year after year for that weekend.

Business owner Lisa Pottinger suggested that a homecoming not be held as an annual event. 鈥溗悠礳oming was successful because it was not every year,鈥 she said.

The Chamber hosted a successful fair weekend earlier in the summer and are planning on holding it again in 2015. However, this event can鈥檛 be combined with the Lily Festival weekend as the rides aren鈥檛 available later in the summer.

There was some discussion about the feasibility of holding two events in the summer. 鈥淥ur biggest problem is volunteers, we never have everyone jumping on board,鈥 said Mutch. He said that they need more support from the local business community.
