The three game winning streak for the Neepawa Natives is over, as the Selkirk Steelers won on Sunday night 6-3.

Brayden Atkinson, Steven Phillips and Kyle McDonald scored for Neepawa, while Goaltender Alex Henry stopped 37 of 43 shots during the game.

Coach Dwayne Kirkup said a slow start in the first period combined with some mistakes in their own zone throughout the game, proved to be their undoing.

"I personally think that we were our own worst enemy. I thought the Neepawa Natives beat ourselves," said Kirkup. "We weren't very sharp, the back end wasn't very good and Alex Henry wasn't Alex Henry tonight. We turned too many pucks over and spent too much time in our own zone."

Kirkup added that it's disappointing that the team was not able build upon its recent success against Dauphin, OCN and Swan Valley, with a solid home effort.

"We just didn't look like a team with any urgency to our game," said Kirkup. "The game can be very humbling. You think that you are on top of the world at times, and then you come in, you don't put the effort in and you end up with a result that you don't like."

The loss drops Neepawa's record to 6-8-1 on the season. The next game for the Natives on Tuesday, Oct. 28, in Waywayseecappo against the Wolverines.
