The 水果视频 Junior Hockey League鈥檚 Neepawa Natives have hired Dustin Howden as the team鈥檚 new assistant coach.

Howden, who hails from Deloraine, will fill the void left by Cam Tibbett who is pursuing other career opportunities. Tibbett will remain with the organization in a different role.

Howden coached in the AAA midget and AAA bantam programs with the Southwest Cougars this past season.

Recently with the AAA Bantam Cougars as head coach, he was part of a developmental team that saw 13 players drafted in the WHL or MJHL.

鈥淲e are happy to add Dustin to our coaching staff. He believes in the development of players to the next level, which is important to our organization,鈥 said Natives general manager Myles Cathcart in a release.  鈥淗e has strong community ties, passion for the game, and exerts lots of energy for the greater success of the organization.

Howden will start his new position at the beginning of August.

鈥淚 am ready to go,鈥 said Howden. 鈥淭here is a lot of work to be done but challenges are part of the game.  I am looking forward to being part of the Natives organization and community.鈥

The Natives training camp will commence on Aug. 29 at the Yellowhead Arena in Neepawa.  The home opener is scheduled for Sept. 19 when the Natives host the OCN Blizzard.
