The “It Takes Guts” barrel racing event is just days away from taking place at the Neepawa Fairgrounds.
The event, which is on Sunday, will be put on by Neepawa's own Erin Cathcart, her parents and sisters and is a fundraiser for Crohn’s and Colitis Canada, with half of the entry fee money going directly towards the foundation.
Cathcart, who was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in September 2012, says preparations are almost complete and she’s pleased with the amount of support the organizing committee has received for the upcoming event.
“It has been great preparing for the event as I have met people who have Crohn's or Colitis and fight similar daily battles that I do and they understand what it’s like to live with IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease),” she said.
“We’ve had an overwhelming response both from our own community and the barrel racing world,” she continued. “We are so grateful for each and every person who has offered to volunteer or has donated items.”
The event will include a silent auction table, 50/50 ticket sales and a concession on site. Originally scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., the event is now slated to get underway at 2:30 p.m.
Cathcart says not only will there be barrel racers coming from ˮƵ, but also Saskatchewan and Ontario as well.
Ulcerative Colitis is an unpredictable and complex autoimmune IBD disease that causes inflammation, swelling and ulceration in the large intestine which has no known cause or cure as of yet.
