The Neepawa baseball fields will soon see some upgrades in the not-too-distant future.

The improvements include a new outfield fence to the main field as well as an additional batting cage that will built.

"Hopefully it will attract more kids to the game," said Don Schmall, past president and one of the current organizers of Neepawa Minor Baseball.

Last year, Neepawa Minor Baseball applied and received a community grant and have also received donations from several of the service clubs to help fund the project. The organization also went out and raised funds as well.

Minor ball set to get underway

Meanwhile, Neepawa Minor Baseball held its registration meeting in March and by the looks of it, the numbers are slightly down compared to last year. Schmall says that may not be for long however as the organization has added a few more kids to teams over the last little while and are still accepting registrations.

"If there are kids who still want to register, some of the teams don't have an over abundance of players, so we're still accepting registrations," he said. "There are a few age categories where we have a few short in terms of numbers."

He says all the teams are busy practicing now and trying to get ready for the season, which should begin the first week of May (weather permitting).

A minor baseball event to mark on the calendar is the midget 'AA' boys baseball championship, which will be held in Neepawa, July 18-20.
